ARTHROSAMID INJECTIONS

What is ARTHROSAMID INJECTIONS?

Arthrosamid® (often searched as “Arthrosamed”) is a non-surgical, injectable hydrogel treatment used primarily for managing knee osteoarthritis

. Unlike traditional steroid or lubricant injections, it is designed to be a long-lasting, permanent implant that integrates with the joint tissue to provide sustained pain relief and improved mobility.

How it Works
  • Composition: It is a synthetic, non-biodegradable hydrogel made of 97.5% water and 2.5% cross-linked polyacrylamide.
  • Mechanism: Once injected into the knee joint, the gel blends with the synovial membrane (the inner lining of the joint). It creates a “shock-absorbing” cushion that reduces friction and inflammation, helping to restore joint function.
  • Longevity: Because it does not break down in the body, a single injection can provide pain relief for 3 to 5 years
The Procedure & Recovery
  • Administration: Performed as an outpatient procedure under local anaesthetic, typically taking less than 30 minutes. Clinicians often use ultrasound guidance to ensure precise placement.
  • Immediate Aftercare: Patients can usually go home right away but are advised to avoid strenuous activity (like running or heavy lifting) for the first 2 weeks.
  • Timeline of Results: While some relief may be felt within 24 hours, the maximum benefit usually develops between 4 and 12 weeks as the gel integrates with the joint lining.

Side Effects & Risks
Arthrosamid has a strong safety profile, though minor temporary reactions are common:
  • Common: Mild to moderate pain, swelling, bruising, or a feeling of “fullness” at the injection site.
  • Rare: Joint infection (clinicians often give oral antibiotics before the procedure to prevent this) or rare allergic reactions.
